Job Title:                   Housekeeping / Laundry Aide

Department:             Environmental Services    

Reports To:              EVS Supervisor

FLSA Status:           Non-Exempt
 

Job Summary

The position maintains environmental and infection control standards and regulatory requirements within established policies and procedures of Minidoka Memorial Hospital.  The position performs a variety of general cleaning tasks to maintain patient rooms, offices, hallways and other assigned areas of the facility.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Housekeeping Aide

  • Performs routine cleaning of patient rooms, nursing units, offices, clinical areas, waiting areas, lobbies, lounges, rest rooms, and corridors in a clean, neat and sanitary manner.
  • Utilizes the appropriate chemicals and supplies according to procedure.
  • Reports safety hazards as appropriate.
  • Transports trash and hazardous waste to appropriate disposal area.
  • Replenishes supplies.
  • Follows all infection prevention and control practices, including Standard Precautions, Transmission-Based Precautions and hand hygiene.
  • Maintains set quality standards when performing job duties.
  • Observes safety precautions at all times.
  • Maintains and ensures age-specific precautions.
  • Performs all aspects of assigned tasks in a manner that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.

General

  • Performs all assigned tasks in a professional manner in order to reflect the highest integrity of the Environmental Services Department.
  • Completes work assignments in a timely manner.
  • Uses and maintains equipment properly.
  • Assists visitors with directions whenever requested.
  • Always introduces self to patients, families and visitors.
  • Works day, evening or night shift as assigned.
  • Ability to do work on his/her own with normal supervision.
  • Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
  • Able to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Able to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Completes annual education requirements.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements.
  • Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, health plans and staff.
  • Attends annual review and departmental in-services, as scheduled.
  • Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
  • Adheres to Hospital policies and procedures.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility, as well as the focus statement of the department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned; this may include laundering duties.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED diploma, OR one to three (1-3) months related experience and/or training; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Requirements

  • Bilingual (English and Spanish).

  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Ability to work with sensitive and confidential information.
  • Read and understand information (i.e. Product/Chemical Labels, Safety Data Sheets, work instruction)
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proven integrity, respect, and initiative.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Rare lifting of greater than 100 pounds.
